KUCHING: The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) has appointed Rayner Simon as its new chief operating officer (COO), marking a new chapter of growth, innovation, and excellence for Sarawak’s premier convention venue.

With extensive experience in the international hospitality industry, BCCK said Simon is set to implement global best practices, enhance guest experiences, and foster strategic collaborations to attract high-profile events to Sarawak.

“I am honoured to lead BCCK at this crucial moment and look forward to working closely with our talented team to position BCCK as a top-tier convention and exhibition destination,” he said.

Simon has held key leadership positions in renowned hospitality establishments worldwide, specialising in operational excellence, business development, and guest experience enhancement.

His global expertise will be instrumental in driving the convention centre’s growth and elevating its reputation in the business events sector.

BCCK is now officially managed by Hemisphere Corporation Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Group of Companies.

This strategic move is expected to further strengthen BCCK’s position as a premier business events venue and enhance Sarawak’s presence on the global stage.

SEDC general manager Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir expressed confidence in the convention centre’s future, saying the integration under Hemisphere is a key step in reinforcing Sarawak’s status as a leading destination for international business events.

“With Hemisphere’s expertise in hospitality and event management, combined with Simon’s vast experience, we are confident that BCCK will continue to thrive, attracting prestigious conferences, exhibitions, and corporate events that contribute to Sarawak’s economic growth,” he said.

As Sarawak’s largest purpose-built convention centre, BCCK remains committed to delivering exceptional event experiences, world-class catering, and unparalleled hospitality.

Under new leadership and a strengthened management structure, it aims to introduce innovative event solutions, expand its international market reach, and further solidify Sarawak’s appeal as a leading business events hub.
