KUCHING: The completion date for the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching II (BCCK II) has been revised to December 2027, earlier than the previously reported March 2028 target.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Second Minister for Finance and New Economy as well as Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, was briefed on the updated schedule during a site visit to the RM550 million project today.
Uggah was informed that construction, which began in April this year, has achieved 3.27 per cent progress as of last week, placing the project ahead of schedule.
““This project is crucial for Sarawak as it is expected to host major international events, including the International Water Association (IWA) World Congress and Exhibition in 2028, which is anticipated to draw more than 10,000 participants from around the world,” Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) said in a Facebook statement.
During the visit, Uggah also reviewed the features of the upcoming landmark facility, which will include a main hall accommodating up to 9,500 people — almost double the capacity of the existing BCCK.
The development also covers a multi-storey car park with more than 1,000 bays, 20 smaller meeting rooms, and a riverside facility.
A covered pedestrian bridge will link the new centre to the current BCCK, creating an integrated convention hub.
The project incorporates Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology as part of Sarawak’s digitalisation agenda.
The department assured that strict monitoring will be carried out to ensure the project is completed on time and to quality standards.
