SIBU: The Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2025 wrapped up on Saturday with a dazzling fireworks display, marking the end of its 10-day run since 3 July.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the past 10 days had showcased the true pulse of Borneo through its music, flavours, craftsmanship, and shared narratives.
From community kitchens to cultural pavilions, he highlighted that every element reflected not only creativity and tradition but also a strong sense of place and belonging.
This was stated in his speech, which was read by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who officiated the closing ceremony on his behalf.
Stressing that festivals like BCF do more than entertain, he said they build social cohesion, attract tourism, and promote public well-being by fostering pride in identity and locality.
“These are elements critical to the fabric of strong, resilient communities—something we prioritise in our public health and development agendas.
“Let us also acknowledge the valuable role of every attendee, performer, vendor, and enforcement personnel who contributed to the success and safety of this festival. Your engagement keeps the spirit of BCF alive and relevant with each passing year.
“As we close this year’s edition, I encourage everyone to carry forward the goodwill, knowledge, and appreciation gained. Let ‘The Rhythm of Borneo’ guide us in building inclusive communities where culture continues to thrive,” Dr Sim added.
Meanwhile, the event also saw the announcement of winners for the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Food Premises Toilet Cleanliness Competition 2025 under Category A (air-conditioned premises) and Category B (open-air/non-air-conditioned premises).
In Category A, Falcon Asian Wok F & B Sdn Bhd won first prize with RM1,000, followed by Caffeine Cafe with RM700, and Jigger On The Rock in third place with RM500.
