KUCHING: The pre-launch of ‘Be a Hero: Blood Drive & Charity Fest 2.0’ took place today at SJKC Sungai Apong, signalling the start of an inspiring community initiative to promote blood donation and social responsibility among the public.
The main event, organised and sponsored by Big Grain Group with the support of SJKC Sungai Apong as the venue provider, will be held on November 1 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the school library.
The upcoming event aims to raise awareness about the life-saving importance of blood donation, while nurturing compassion and civic-mindedness among students and the wider community.
The highlight of the fest will be a Blood Donation Drive, conducted in collaboration with the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank.
Alongside it, various charitable initiatives will take place, including the donation of essential items to local welfare organisations such as Hope Place, SOS Kids, PERKATA, and Tzu Chi Kuching, all of which will set up booths to receive public contributions.
Additionally, the Kuching Specialist Hospital will offer free basic health screenings for all visitors.
SJKC Sungai Apong’s headmistress, Ong Siew Peng, shared her delight that the school has been given the opportunity to host such a meaningful event.
“This is the first time our school is hosting something of this scale,” she said. “It provides valuable education and awareness to our students about the importance of saving lives.”
Meanwhile, Big Grain Group’s Sales Manager, William Chin, a proud alumnus of SJKC Sungai Apong, expressed heartfelt gratitude for being able to give back to his former school.
“This is our second edition. The overwhelming response from the first ‘Be a Hero: Blood Drive and Charity Fest’ inspired us to continue this noble effort to help more people in our community,” he said.
