KUCHING: Road users around the city are advised to exercise extra caution, especially when driving on wet road surfaces following the current weather conditions, which have seen frequent rainfall, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

In conjunction with the reopening of the 2026 school session beginning on January 12, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) advises parents and all road users to be more alert, prudent and cautious when driving, especially amid unpredictable weather conditions.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor, Datuk Hilmy Othman, said that intermittent rainfall and flash floods in several areas could potentially increase stress levels and traffic congestion, particularly during the morning and midday peak hours around school zones.

“I take into account the unpredictable weather conditions as well as the challenges posed by flash floods, which may affect traffic flow.

“In this regard, DBKU is committed to deploying traffic wardens and will make every effort to station them in areas identified as congestion hotspots.

“This control aims to ensure smoother vehicle movement, reduce traffic congestion and enhance road safety for all users,” he said.

Members of the public are advised to give their full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) traffic police and DBKU traffic wardens on duty by complying with all instructions and signals given, in the interest of everyone’s safety and smoother traffic flow.
