KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos has encouraged the public to be charitable towards those in need, especially during the upcoming festive season.

“Be concerned and caring towards the underprivileged. At least once a year, we must think of the unfortunate ones in our society and community.

“This is not just a Christian tradition but also a universal one,” he said in reference to an Eco Shop charity function he attended at Aiman Mall, Kota Samarahan today.

He commended Eco Shop for distributing RM300 each to 100 underprivileged people at the event.

“This is truly a noble gesture and that RM300 per person will surely bring cheer and joy. We in MPKS applaud this most commendable act and culture. May it be upheld each year,” he said.

Minos said such acts should be pondered upon by successful private sector businesses, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.

“Any charitable effort done by successful business groups is most welcome. Those hard hit by Covid-19 since March have lost their small businesses and income and need sympathy and support,” the council chief said, emphasising that the government could not do it alone.

He urged the public to make Samarahan a place of caring and concerned people, unlike the usual urban areas where there was often too much individualism and self-aggrandisement.
