MIRI: Police in Miri have handed over four new motorcycles to boost patrol capabilities in the rural outposts of Bekenu and Batu Niah, strengthening security presence in the two fast-growing communities.
The motorcycles, part of the Unit Rondaan Bermotosikal (URB) fleet under the Miri Police Community Safety and Crime Prevention Department (BPJKK), were formally handed over during a ceremony at the Miri police headquarters this morning.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah witnessed the handover, which saw BPJKK Miri head ASP Lee Yen Fang signing the handover documents.
Receiving on behalf of the local stations were Batu Niah police chief Sergeant Rasit Othman and Bekenu police chief Sergeant Rudy Balan.
Also present was Miri deputy district police chief Supt Nur Ashyikin Abdullah, along with divisional heads and station chiefs.
Police said the additional motorcycles would strengthen patrol and monitoring efforts in Bekenu and Batu Niah, enabling officers to respond more swiftly to incidents, especially in outlying areas.
The motorcycles will improve pareols mobility and visibility on the ground, particularly in rural and higher-risk zones.
This is not just about faster response, but also about building stronger engagement with local communities.
The move is part of an ongoing effort by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to enhance its rural policing strategy.
Patrol motorcycles are seen as a cost-effective way of ensuring constant presence, particularly in areas where geography and distance make conventional patrols more challenging.
The handover also reflects PDRM’s push to strengthen its public image as a proactive and responsive law enforcement agency.
Officials say the deployment of the motorcycles will allow for more frequent, community-friendly patrols while ensuring logistical resources are distributed evenly across the district.
Local residents are expected to benefit from greater reassurance and faster response times as police presence is stepped up in Bekenu and Batu Niah.
