BELAWAI: The recent Iftitah Belawai Beach Fishing Grand Prix (GP) drew over 400 visitors, playing its key role in boosting local tourism and the economy.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the annual competition significantly contributes to positioning Belawai as a prime fishing destination.
“The Iftitah Belawai Beach Fishing GP is not only a highly anticipated annual event but also has a positive impact on the local tourism sector.
“Apart from attracting tourists, the competition also provides local businesses with the opportunity to promote their products,” he said during the opening ceremony of the event at Iftitah Beach Resort here recently.
The event, saw 250 anglers from across the state competing, with Stallone Ngadan emerging as the champion after catching a 3.17 kg stingray, earning him a cash prize of RM10,000.

Meanwhile, Mohd Syazrulnizam secured second place with a 1.32 kg stingray, taking home RM3,000, while Awang Saifudin Awang Julaihi claimed third place with a 1.195 kg stingray, winning RM1,000.
Participants who finished between fourth and 15th place each received a consolation cash prize of RM100.
Meanwhile, with increasing participation each year, organisers hope the recreational sporting event will continue to grow as a prestigious event that not only promotes the sport of fishing but also strengthens Belawai’s tourism and economic sectors.
