KUCHING: Belgian visitors soak in Kuching Waterfront’s charm ahead of Sarawak Regatta 2025 which will be held from Friday (October 31) until Sunday (November 2).
Kris, 59, and Veerle, 52, from Belgium are among the many international tourists drawn to the Kuching Waterfront this week as the city buzzes with anticipation ahead of the Sarawak Regatta 2025.

For Kris, the visit marks a nostalgic return after 31 years, as he was seen taking in the waterfront’s scenic views.
“I always wanted to come back to Kuching because I liked the promenade here, especially in the evening with the lights on. It’s very nice,” he said.
Now visiting with Veerle, the pair is enjoying the sights and nature, having explored Bako National Park before heading next to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as part of their Borneo adventure.
“We came back for the nature,” Kris told Sarawak Tribune when met by the riverbank recently.
The couple, who live in Genk, northeastern Belgium, near the Dutch border, arrived in Kuching just in time to witness the lively atmosphere as paddlers trained under the afternoon sun.
The Sarawak River came alive with rhythmic splashes and the hum of last-minute preparations as teams geared up for the weekend’s longboat races.
“We hope to see something here at the regatta. We didn’t know about it before; it’s our first time, and it looks exciting,” said Veerle.
Under clear skies and gentle breezes, locals and visitors alike have been flocking to the waterfront, capturing photos of the Kuching skyline and soaking in the festive energy that signals the return of one of Sarawak’s most cherished traditions.
