KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Beliong community in Asajaya will soon see the development of two significant new landmarks with the official groundbreaking of the Fo Guang See Temple and Zheng Tian Deities Council Hall.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the SJK(C) Chung Hua Beliong football field recently, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
In his speech, Dr Sim highlighted the importance of racial and religious harmony in Sarawak and expressed strong support for grassroots efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage.
The event, which drew more than 120 guests, featured vibrant cultural performances, including lion dances, kompang drum displays and religious ceremonies such as the consecration of deity statues and spiritual cleansing rituals – a testament to Sarawak’s cultural diversity and unity.
The Fo Guang See Temple, which is envisioned to serve both as a place of worship and a tourist attraction, is expected to be completed within two to three years.
Meanwhile, the Zheng Tian Deities Council Hall – also known as Yuanchen Hall – will be constructed based on Taoist beliefs and will house 60 Tai Sui statues along with prominent Taoist deities.
In a show of support, the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) presented a RM1 million contribution to the temple project.
The cheque handover was conducted symbolically and witnessed by the Deputy Premier during the harmonious and goodwill-filled ceremony.
