IPOH, Perak: A total of 554 families hit by the storm in Bercham here on June 19 received RM1 million in aid today.

Each family received RM1,800, presented by Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming, at an event here today. Also present was Bercham assemblyman, Ong Boon Piow.

In his speech, Nga said the aid, contributed by Genting Malaysia and Genting Bersama Malaysia, was in addition to the RM1,000 per family government assistance and RM300 from the district chief’s office distributed previously.

“We know it’s not enough, but funding is limited. That is why, although I work in Putrajaya, my heart remains close to Bercham. When Bercham needs help, we will step forward. That’s why we found ways to assist,” he said.

In the June 19 incident, more than 500 homes across five residential areas in Bercham were damaged following nearly two hours of continuous heavy rain and strong winds. – BERNAMA
