KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) Sarawak has expressed its full support for Sarawak’s demand for a fixed formula in the special grants under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.
BERSATU Sarawak also called on the Federal Government to clarify the current status of repayment claims to Sarawak, as discussed in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
“The party raised concerns about the lack of clear, transparent, and timely repayment for projects under federal jurisdiction in the state. It noted that uncertainty in the repayment period could place strain on Sarawak’s financial planning and reserves,” said Head of Information for BERSATU Sarawak, Alexander Frusis.
He emphasized that the Federal Government must demonstrate a firm commitment to Sarawak’s constitutional rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Sarawak should not accept interim grants or those based on government discretion. Instead, the state should receive allocations based on its revenue contributions and actual needs,” he said in a press statement.
“Furthermore, BERSATU Sarawak reaffirmed its support for the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to expedite the implementation of a fixed formula for the allocation of federal funds,” he added.
The party believes this move is necessary not only for fiscal justice but also to uphold Sarawak’s special status as a founding partner of the Federation of Malaysia.
The statement also rejected the use of financial distribution mechanisms that are based on political considerations rather than the true economic needs of Sarawak. According to BERSATU Sarawak, only a realistic and sincere approach will bring about tangible results for the state.
The call for the fixed formula and clearer financial commitments reflects ongoing efforts by the Sarawak Government to ensure greater equity and autonomy for the state within the Malaysian Federation.
