KUCHING: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) Chief Executive Officer, Amelia Roziman, has become the first Asian and the only Malaysian appointed as a trustee of The Iceberg, a global authority championing the legacy impact of business and professional events.
According to a press release, her appointment strengthens Asia’s representation in legacy-focused business events and follows her recognition as the recipient of The Iceberg Excellence Award on October 2.
“This appointment is both a personal milestone and a collective achievement for Asia’s business events community.
“The Iceberg’s mission aligns closely with Sarawak’s vision and my own commitment to delivering meaningful legacies for communities, economies and the environment,” she said.
With nearly two decades of industry experience, Amelia said she would continue advocating for Asia’s growth by drawing on Sarawak’s expertise and values in legacy-driven events.
Founder of The Iceberg, James Latham, said Amelia’s leadership and experience made her a strong addition to the Board of Trustees.
“The Iceberg is built on inclusivity and global representation, and Amelia embodies exactly that,” he said.
“Her leadership in advancing legacy-driven business events, supported strongly by the government, and her commitment to elevating the industry beyond the visitor economy, make her invaluable to Sarawak, Malaysia and the global community.”
Since 2006, Amelia has played a significant role in shaping Malaysia’s business events sector.
Under her leadership, Sarawak recorded 29 destination marketing awards, while she earned 10 professional honours, including becoming the first Asian woman inducted into the Events Industry Council (EIC) Hall of Leaders in 2023.
Amelia joins a distinguished group of trustees overseeing The Iceberg’s governance and strategic direction as it transitions into a charitable trust.
Other members include Caroline MacKenzie, James Latham, Martin Sirk, Sarah Fleming, Ben Hainsworth, Geneviève Leclerc, Oscar Cerezales and Gregg Talley.
