MIRI: Business Events Sarawak has reinforced its commitment to shared growth with industry players here, positioning the city as an increasingly important node in Sarawak’s business events strategy.

The state bureau hosted a Ramadan engagement session on Thursday (Feb 26) in conjunction with the first Miri Business Events Committee meeting of the year, chaired by Mayor of Miri City Council Adam Yii.

The engagement was aimed at recognising industry contributions while consolidating collaboration across the local business events ecosystem.

Business Events Sarawak, widely known as BESarawak, said sustained engagement with industry stakeholders was critical as Miri continues to build capacity to host and deliver high-impact business events.

The bureau pointed to its 2025 performance as evidence of momentum. Last year, BESarawak secured 160 business events across Sarawak, generating a total economic impact of RM483.5 million and direct delegate expenditure of RM262.8 million. More than 58,000 delegates were attracted to the state, reinforcing Sarawak’s standing as one of Malaysia’s leading business events destinations.

Officials said Miri’s growing role in that landscape would be further strengthened through closer coordination between the bureau, local authorities and industry partners.

Speaking at the engagement, BESarawak acting chief executive officer Jason Tan Chin Foo, said collaboration with the Miri Business Events Committee had been a key driver of consistent performance.

“Collaboration between BESarawak and the Miri business events committee is one of the driving forces behind our success year after year.

“By continuing to work closely with partners in Miri, across Sarawak and throughout Malaysia, we are strengthening the business events ecosystem and ensuring that every event delivers shared growth and lasting impact,” he said.

Meanwhile, BESarawak said Miri’s industry engagement would remain a priority as the bureau works to translate strategy into measurable outcomes on the ground.

The Ramadan engagement was attended by members of the Miri Business Events Committee and representatives from the local tourism and events industry, signalling what officials described as a collective commitment to elevating Miri’s profile within Sarawak’s business events roadmap.
