DARO: Declining academic performance and low uptake of government assistance in Beting Maro have prompted calls for grassroots leaders to take a more proactive role in community and educational development.

Beting Maro Assemblyman, Razaili Gapor, expressed concern over the persistently weak academic results among students in the area, and urged the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) as well as community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) to take responsibility for driving improvements.

“Education must be given serious attention by all parties. I am very saddened to see the students’ performance in our area still weak,” Razaili said during a meeting with the KMKK at Masjid Al Amin, Beladin, on Friday.

“JKKK and the community need to work hand in hand with schools to curb issues such as truancy, lack of motivation, and student dropouts.”

Razaili highlighted that support should extend beyond financial aid to include monitoring, guidance, and fostering a conducive learning environment at home and within the village.

In addition to stressing the importance of education, he encouraged the KMKK to actively share information on government assistance programmes, particularly for vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, single mothers, and low-income families.

He also noted the comparatively low number of applicants for initiatives like the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) and Higher Education Institution (IPT) assistance in Beting Maro.

“KMKK must proactively identify eligible recipients, especially for aid from the Sarawak Government.

“Utilising channels such as cooperatives and regularly updating village profiles will facilitate the efficient distribution of assistance,” he added.
