BETONG: The Betong Public Works Department (PWD) has successfully completed 423 development projects, the highest number among all divisions in Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the achievement reflected the dedication and efficiency of PWD staff in realising the state government’s development goals.

“I am very pleased and proud of the success of all projects in Betong Division. This is the largest number compared with other divisions, and I thank the PWD staff for their hard work in serving the people,” he was quoted as saying in a Sarawak PWD Facebook post.

Uggah said this when attending a high tea event hosted by Betong PWD, which was organised to celebrate project achievements and strengthen solidarity among its workforce today (Oct 25).

Uggah stressed that the accomplishment was proof of JKR’s capability to deliver under the vision ‘We Build For You’, while urging officers and staff to maintain full budget utilisation and efficient project management despite limited financial capacity.

The Bukit Saban assemblyman also reminded the department to strictly enforce the “One Month Rule” to ensure issues and delays are resolved within a reasonable time frame.

“Our responsibility is not just to complete projects, but to deliver them with world-class quality,” he stressed.

He further noted that Sarawak PWD’s international recognition, including the Bentley Infrastructure Award 2025 in Amsterdam, proved that the department could stand alongside global organisations in engineering and infrastructure.
