BETONG: The Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation) International Secondary School (YSISS) will be established in the constituency to provide local children in the area access to international education.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg assured that he will discuss with the relevant parties to establish another YSISS to cater to children from the Sri Aman, Betong, and Sarikei divisions.

As such, he is confident that Betong will become another centre for international learning, in addition to the establishment of similar schools in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu.

“To establish this international school, I have no doubt because it is part of talent development. This school is based on the Cambridge syllabus.

“I will discuss finding a location because we need to identify the catchment area here,” he said when officiating the Division-Level Ngabang Gawai Dayak at Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan Hall here Wednesday.

On the same note, Abang Johari assured that a new building for Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) will also be built in the constituency, responding to the request from Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

At present, he said, Centexs Betong, which has been operating since 2019, is still based in a rented building.

Therefore, he assured that a new building will be constructed to house the institution.

Additionally, Abang Johari asserted that Centexs has technology for increasing paddy production, with its pilot project located in Kuching.

Therefore, he requested that the same technology be applied in Betong to help the local farmers.

“Centexs can do this here to increase the yield of paddy. In terms of culture and fashion, Centexs also has expertise. So, we will train with the expertise that Centexs has,” he said.

Also present were Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, and Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, among others.
