KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) urges everyone to be cautious, especially when it comes to dangerous animals particularly crocodiles, during the current flood season.

The warning was shared on SFC’s official Facebook page due to concerns that the crocodiles may unexpectedly emerge.

“At the moment, we just want to give a short reminder. As we are currently experiencing the rainy season, everyone needs to always stay alert and be aware of their surroundings—look left, right, front, and back.

“When water levels rise due to continuous rain, crocodiles also tend to come up.

“You would not want to unexpectedly run into one while relaxing by a drain or river,” SFC said.

SFC added that the safety tips shared included to not allow children to play near or pass through large drains or rivers, especially during heavy rain, stay updated on crocodile-related alerts and avoid any activities in the late evening or at night and do not dispose of carcasses or garbage into rivers suspected to have crocodiles.

“Livestock should also not be left roaming freely during the monsoon season.

“Additionally, save emergency contact numbers on your mobile phone for easy access in case of need,” SFC added.
