KUCHING: The Kuching Bicycle & Motor Traders Association (KBMTA) will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a grand gala dinner on May 16, held in conjunction with the installation of its 2026-2028 committee.

The event, themed ‘Seventy Years of Shared Glory – Together as One, We Set Forth Anew’, will be held at the Seafood Shangri-La Banquet Hall atop CityOne Megamall here, and is expected to draw strong participation from across the country.

In a press conference today, organising chairman and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) member, Aaron Tay Kok Tung, described the anniversary as a significant moment reflecting decades of unity, growth and collective effort within the industry.

He said about 150 representatives from 15 affiliated associations nationwide are expected to attend, providing an opportunity to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation among industry players.

KBMTA Chairman, Kevin Law, said the celebration goes beyond commemorating past achievements, serving also as a platform to chart the industry’s future direction while reinforcing solidarity among members.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will attend as guest of honour, while the Chairman of the Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA), Datuk Wee Hong, is expected to lead delegates from across the country.

The evening programme will include cultural and entertainment performances, a ceremonial cake-cutting, and networking sessions aimed at fostering closer collaboration nationwide.

Around 70 tables are expected, underscoring the scale of the celebration.

Dinner tickets are priced at RM1,000 per table, with organisers urging early booking due to limited seating and strong response.

For enquiries and ticket reservations, members of the public and industry players may contact the association at 017-810 0536 or 012-887 3000.
