BAU: This district will soon have its own mini convention centre as the Bidayuh Cultural Centre has reached 80 per cent completion.

Tasik Biru state assemblyman, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said the project is on track to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year, as work now focuses on finishing touches.

With Bau’s growing population and limited event spaces, he said the centre is timely and strategically located near Kuching to serve as a hub for events.

“This centre can host seminars, conventions, or any type of event. In many ways, it will serve as a mini convention centre for Bau.

“We will have a main hall, a daily operating canteen, a meeting room, exhibition space, and a gallery. The design is inspired by the traditional baruk, making it an iconic landmark,” he told reporters after visiting the site today.

Upon completion, Jinep said the centre will be managed by the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA).

He added that the project not only provides a much-needed venue for activities and gatherings but also supports Bau’s socioeconomic development.

The RM9-million project is funded under the Projek Rakyat initiative.

Jinep also revealed that more development projects are lined up for Bau, including upgrades to the District Education Office (PPD) Bau costing RM25 million, and Bau District Council costing RM20 million.

“All these projects are on the way. PPD Bau will be tendered in September. More transformation and new landmarks are coming up in Bau,” he said.
