SIBU: Higher loan amounts are now available for the repair of longhouses in the state, thanks to continuing priority to rural development.
According to Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, one of the initiatives introduced by the state government is the provision of loan schemes for the repair of longhouses.
“The loan scheme for repairing longhouses is no longer RM30,000 as the government has increased it to RM50,000,” he said at the Randau Pemansang Programme organised by the JKKK Rumah Salim Unang, Sungai Rassau, Batang Igan Tengah, on Friday.
“However, you need to know how to submit a report to apply for this scheme.
“If you are unsure, you can refer to and ask those who have already applied,” he said.
He also congratulated the residents of Rumah Salim Unang for successfully repairing their longhouse, which now has a new look.
“The uniform design and colour represent the spirit of unity among the residents of this longhouse.

“This clearly shows that you are all united,” he said.
Rentap also urged the residents of the Bawang Assan area to always remain united under the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) umbrella to achieve the goal of making Sarawak a developed state by 2030.
Meanwhile, Katibas assemblyman, Lidam Assan, called for the establishment of an organisation in the Sungai Rassau, Batang Igan area to bring up various issues related to the development of the people in the area.
He said the role of the organisation would be different from the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), which only serves a single longhouse while the new organisation would cater to all longhouses in the Rassau area.
Earlier, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Chief, Kevin Lau Kor Jie, pledged his commitment to continue collaborating with the community in the area.
At the event, Rentap announced a grant of RM6,000 and Lidam RM4,000 for JKKK Rumah Salim Unang.
