KUCHING: “The Biggest Loser” challenge and a series of health activities marked the launch of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU)’s “Jom Sihat” programme 2025, reinforcing the city’s commitment to physical and mental well-being among residents and municipal staff.
The programme, held annually since 2012, involved 100 participants; 89 city residents and 11 DBKU staff taking part in jogging, brisk walking, balanced diets and a Mount Serapi fitness challenge.
A total of 38 participants completed the programme while 32 achieved weight loss with winners sharing RM3,900 in cash prizes.

DBKU director Ramzi Abdillah described “Jom Sihat” as more than an event, calling it a comprehensive health awareness movement emphasising physical, mental and social well-being as the foundation for a sustainable and resilient city.
“Programmes like Jom Sihat reflect DBKU’s commitment to empowering the health and well-being of both staff and the wider community.
“It is also part of our strategy to make Kuching a dynamic and resilient city while improving the urban happiness index,” he said in his speech at Godown Amphitheatre, Kuching Waterfront on Sunday.
Ramzi highlighted key health practices participants were encouraged to adopt, including balanced nutrition, regular exercise, adequate sleep, emotional well-being, stress management and strong social connections, while also stressing weight management and heart health to combat non-communicable diseases.
He added that the programme serves as a strategic platform, bringing together government agencies, private health institutions, the Ministry of Health and DBKU in a collaborative ecosystem to strengthen public health initiatives.
“DBKU believes that health is the foundation of productivity, well-being and community prosperity.
“Jom Sihat 2025 embodies our ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle among city residents,” he said.
The programme also included aerobics, exercise equipment made from recycled materials, colouring and poster competitions and lucky draws, encouraging active participation and raising awareness about healthy living among residents and municipal staff.
