BINTANGOR: The Ministry of Transport (MOTS) is keeping a close watch on the upgrading works of the R.C Pontoons at Bintangor Jetty to ensure timely completion.

Its minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said as of Apr 26, the project had achieved 46.8 per cent physical progress, with major work packages such as piling, pontoon fabrication, and jetty enhancement currently underway.

He said the project, approved under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), forms part of a broader infrastructure enhancement programme that also includes similar projects in Sibu and Bintulu.

“This project is not merely about replacing structures – it represents a significant investment in improving transport safety, boosting economic resilience, and enhancing public facilities in regional towns such as Bintangor.

“It reflects the ministry’s wider vision of delivering impactful infrastructure upgrades that meet the needs of all Sarawakians, particularly those living in remote and community-focused areas,” he told a press conference following his site visit to the Bintangor Jetty recently.

In ensuring successful and timely completion of the project, Lee assured that MOTS would continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders involved.

“We are deeply grateful to the public for their patience and understanding throughout the construction period, and we apologise for any temporary inconvenience caused,” he added.

The project, which commenced on Nov6, 2024, is scheduled for completion within 10 months.

As a temporary measure, enhancement works are being carried out at an alternative jetty located along Jalan Maju. These improvements include the installation of fender structures, safety fencing, and other supporting facilities to ensure continuous public access during the construction phase.
