BINTANGOR: The Bintangor Sports Complex is set to be upgraded with an allocation of RM2.5 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan to enhance sports facilities for local residents and school students in the Meradong district.

According to Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, the project has finally been approved after he had raised the need for the complex’s upgrade for eight years in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

“I would like to thank the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development for approving the funding for this project.

“Once completed, it will provide greater convenience for local residents to engage in sports activities and make it easier for schools in the Meradong district to hold their annual sports competitions.”

Ding said this during the project site handover at the Bintangor Sports Complex on Wednesday (March 5).

The upgrading includes improvements to the running track, football field, drainage system, and long jump and high jump track.

The project will be managed by the Meradong and Julau District Council (MDMJ) and is set to commence on March 3, with a construction period of eight months, scheduled for completion on Nov 4.

This project is expected to improve the quality of sports facilities in the Meradong district and bring significant benefits to the local community by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
