BINTULU: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak is set to launch a new event for the district, Bintulu Bomba Run 1.0, next year.
Its state director Jamri Masran said the overwhelming response to the Sarawak Bomba Run with Community 3.0 today (Nov 30) demonstrated the strong community spirit and support from the people of Bintulu for programmes that promote engagement and public awareness.
“Seeing such an encouraging turnout of 2,860 participants, we have decided to launch Bintulu Bomba Run 1.0 next year.
“This is in recognition of the community’s support and our continuous effort to strengthen ties with them,” he said after the programme at the Bintulu Civic Centre grounds on Sunday (Nov 30).
The symbolic flag-off was officiated by Special Duties Officer to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Bintulu MP, Steven Kong.

Jamri also confirmed that Sarawak Bomba Run will return to Kuching next year for its fourth edition, in line with its original tradition.
“Sarawak Bomba Run is our department’s official annual event, normally held in Kuching.
“This year, we brought it to Bintulu as a community branding initiative. After seeing the potential here, we decided to create a dedicated event for Bintulu,” he explained.
He added that the programme was not merely a sports event but also a platform to introduce firefighting products, services and safety awareness to the public.
“Sometimes the public feels hesitant to approach us when we are in uniform.
“Through programmes like this, it becomes easier for us to interact and share information about safety, rescue and preparedness for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL),” he said.
Jamri emphasised that the introduction of Bintulu Bomba Run 1.0 is not merely an addition to the event calendar but a continued commitment by Bomba to build closer relations with the people of Bintulu.
