MUKAH: Bintulu Rugby Football Association (BRFA) made headlines at the Mukah Rugby Carnival by ending an 11-year drought to win their first-ever Cup title.

In the men’s Open category, BRFA secured a decisive 26-15 win over Tueto Wear Rugby Club (TWRC) in the final.

It was a historic moment for the Bintulu side, marking their first Cup victory at the Mukah Carnival.

For TWRC, the runner-up finish was still a significant milestone, as they reached the Cup category for the first time in five years.

The Plate title went to Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA), who edged past Sibu Rugby Association (SRA) 14-12 in a tightly contested match.

SRA settled for second place.

Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC) dominated the Bowl final with a commanding 43-7 win over host team, Mukah Rugby, while the Shield was won by Tibow X Otter (TXO), a team comprising clubs under the Mukah Rugby umbrella, who beat UiTM Mukah 17-7.

In the Women’s Open category, Sebauh Angels from Sebauh clinched the title after topping the league standings, with UiTM Mukah Ladies finishing as runners-up.

This year’s carnival also marked the first time youth divisions were included.

In the Boys’ Under-17 category, Kolej Vokasional Bintulu took top honours, followed by Otters Senior MRSM Mukah in second, and SMK Sebauh in third.

The Boys’ Under-12 category, played under MSSM Touch Rugby rules, featured four teams.

Barracuda Rugby Club from Betong emerged as champions, with SRK Otter from Daro in second place.

Siet Junior, part of the Mukah Division Development Programme, placed third, while SK Penakub Ulu came in fourth.

Top performers at the carnival were recognised with individual awards, including BRFA’s Muhammad Syahir Adib and Sebauh Angels’ Ereance Tanissa.

Youth honours went to Nickodymos Usit Michael, Mohd Wafiq Haikal Kameri, and UiTM Mukah’s Mohamad Arif Farhan Mohamad Fairan, who received the Tueto’s Pick Award.

Held from May 9 to 11 at Politeknik Mukah, the carnival brought together clubs and school teams, reinforcing its role in advancing rugby development across Sarawak.
