BINTULU: Fifty-six people were moved to the Dewan Suarah evacuation centre early this morning as rising floodwaters forced residents from Kampung Kemunting and Rh Roslind to seek shelter.
The centre opened at 12.30 am, according to the Civil Defence Force (APM) Bintulu, which confirmed that 14 households had registered on arrival.
APM officers on site reported a mixed group of evacuees, including elderly residents, a person with disabilities and families with young children.
Kampung Kemunting accounted for 15 evacuees, while Rh Roslind contributed the remaining 41. The overall breakdown stands at 25 males and 31 females.
Initial food relief kits have been distributed and the situation at the centre remains stable.
Two APM personnel and two police officers are currently manning the facility, with other agencies on standby.
Authorities said updates will be issued as conditions develop across the affected areas.
