KUCHING: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang is hoping youths in Bintulu will benefit from the allocation proposed for youth and sports development under next year’s state budget.

In particular he hopes the one and only Indoor and Outdoor Stadium of Bintulu can be refurbished and upgraded.
“The youths of Bintulu have approached me with their frustration that they have no place to organise sports activities.

“There are a lot of talented youths in sports in Bintulu, such as the Frisbee Team who emerged champions in the recent Thailand International Frisbee Tournament.

“However, they can’t use public facilities to do their training but instead, they have to spend money to rent private facilities to train.”

Pang therefore hoped Bintulu youths will get to benefit from the RM47 million proposed for sport facilities as well as to implement various sports development programmes.

He said this in support of Budget 2023 during the third day of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Today (Nov 23).

Pang also said the budget which emphasised on the Urban Renewal Programme will lead to more affordable housing being provided in Bintulu.

“I would like to voice out on behalf of the people from my Tanjong Batu constituency where affordable houses are insufficient to cater to the growing population.

“Although the Jepak Jaya development has been implemented, hopefully more development programmes can be continued to ensure the 2030 vision of Sarawak can be achieved in a shorter time,” he said.

He also applauded the state budget proposal to develop human capital by enhancing the quality of education so that children who are the future leaders and caretakers of Sarawak can reach their full potential.

“I applaud this noble move because education is something that we should invest heavily in for the future of Sarawak.

“It is noted in the budget that an international school will be opened in Bintulu from 2025 onwards. I would like to thank the government for this initiative as Bintulu is in dire need of an international school,” he added.
