BINTULU: Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) has made history as the first corporate company in Sarawak, and in Malaysia to establish a partnership with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), marking a milestone in the move towards a drug-free workplace.
The initiative was launched by the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Jepak, Iskandar Turkee, in conjunction with Bintulu Port’s Ethics Day Programme held at the Bintulu Port Authority Auditorium today.
According to Iskandar, BPSB’s proactive move reflects the strong commitment of the corporate sector in combating drug abuse while strengthening workplace integrity.
“The establishment of an AADK ally in the corporate sector is a progressive step that could set a new benchmark for other companies,” he told reporters after officiating the programme.
He further emphasised that such efforts help curb management leakages and enhance service quality for stakeholders.
“Previously, drug prevention committees existed only within government departments, but now the corporate sector is also stepping forward.
“This clearly proves their determination to ensure a work environment free from the influence of drugs,” he added.
Iskandar, who is also the former director of AADK, praised BPSB’s holistic approach involving not only its employees, but also their families and the surrounding community, particularly those in Taman Sri Pelabuhan Sepait.
He also noted that drug abuse is not limited to youth but affects civil servants and private sector workers alike.
“Continuous cooperation with AADK is crucial, especially in implementing urine screening tests during recruitment and organising regular prevention programmes,” he explained.
Iskandar also highlighted the vital role of the family unit in drug prevention and encouraged parents to engage in leisure activities with their children as an effective preventive measure.
He further called on community leaders, village development and security committees (JKKK), and local residents to continue playing an active role in combating drug issues within their areas.
“As elected representatives, we are committed to providing recreational and sports facilities as a form of social protection for youth,” he pointed out.
During the ceremony, Iskandar also expressed his appreciation to Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad Group President/CEO, Ruslan Abdul Ghani, and the entire BPSB senior management for spearheading the bold initiative, describing it as a model for other companies in cultivating a culture of integrity and drug-free practices.
