BINTULU: SOP Edible Oils hosted an academic industrial visitation for students from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology UNIMAS as part of efforts to foster talent development and strengthen ties between academia and industry,

The event saw the enthusiastic participation of over 60 students, accompanied by Associate Professor Dr Tay Meng Guan.

They were warmly welcomed by SOP controller (Operations) Kiu Kwong Chiang.

The visit provided students with valuable insights into the palm oil industry through an informative session led by SOP’s in-house engineer, which was followed by an extensive guided tour of the refinery.

A particular highlight of the visit was a hands-on product demonstration that encompassed the processing, modelling, and packaging of palm oil, showcasing the transformation of raw materials into everyday consumer products.

Said Associate Professor Dr Tay: “This industrial-academic visit significantly enhances my students’ understanding of the oil palm industry through direct, real-world exposure.”
