BINTULU: Bintulu is aiming to become a Low Carbon Industry City through the implementation of the ‘1 Rakan Alam Sekitar (RAS) 1 Pokok’ programme.
This initiative, led by the Environment Department and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), aims to promote a greener and more environmentally friendly industrial area in the Samalaju Industrial Park.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Datuk Majang Renggi, said that by engaging both industry players and the local community, the programme seeks to encourage efforts that contribute to a greener and more sustainable industrial area.
Majang said this during the ‘1 RAS 1 Pokok’ Tree Planting Programme, held in conjunction with the 2023 World Environment Day celebration here recently
He expressed his optimism about Sarawak’s potential to lead climate change and carbon trading initiatives because such initiatives will attract investment and drive sustainable economic growth.
Meanwhile, Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd general manager, Kenzer Tan, said the company has taken a significant step by collaborating with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) to plant 500 trees around the Similajau National Park area.
He said this effort aligns with the Sarawak government’s target of planting 25 million trees by 2025.
