KUCHING: BIZNETWORK Fiesta Sarawak 2026 is on track to achieve RM1 million in sales and business-matching potential after recording more than RM228,000 in direct sales on its opening day.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the strong start reflected encouraging demand throughout the three-day event at Plaza Merdeka.

“Yesterday alone, from the perspective of direct sales, we recorded RM228,190. Some booths, including gold sellers, reported that their stocks were completely sold out.

“Looking at this strong momentum, we expect sales figures to double, putting us on track towards our RM1 million target through direct sales and businessmatching engagements,” she told reporters after officiating at the second edition of the fiesta on Saturday.

Rubiah said 32 entrepreneurs from across Sarawak are participating this year, with the programme placing greater emphasis on digital commerce through a collaboration with TikTok.

“This platform gives our entrepreneurs the opportunity to venture into new digital marketing techniques.

For some, it is their first time going live on TikTok, receiving direct feedback, market matching and customer interest in real time.

“Indirectly, this opens up a broader market network for products under MARA’s guidance,” she said.

She added that the event also introduced six new products with upgraded packaging and flavours, including PAWADA’s new black pepper sauce range aimed at improving market competitiveness.

Earlier, Rubiah, accompanied by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Council member Ajar @ Siti Ajar Yasin, presented RM333,000 in MARA financing facilities and development grants to four local entrepreneurs to support business expansion.

Another highlight was the debut of the ‘MARA in Fashion’ (MiF) Fashion Runway in Sarawak, themed Borneo Reimagined – Meraikan Warisan Pribumi Sarawak dalam Citra Fesyen Kontemporari.

The showcase featured contemporary collections by Sarawakian designers and GIATMARA Mambong TVET trainees, alongside a special appearance by national fashion designer Datuk Tom Abang Saufi.

Rubiah said MARA’s TVET programmes continue to produce skilled fashion entrepreneurs capable of blending modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), with traditional fabrics and craftsmanship.

“Sarawak has immense talent and unique products, but often lacks exposure.

“Through initiatives like this, we prove that what is done in Peninsular Malaysia can also be successfully executed here in Sarawak, giving our entrepreneurs and TVET graduates the recognition they deserve,” she said.
