KUCHING: Bintangor Kecil Square (BKS) will be upgraded, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said yesterday. The name Bintangor Kecil Square (BKS) has a bit of glamour and with its glamour the facilities must also be glamourous. It is not suitable if it is not glamourous, he said.
“Therefore, as such I ask for cooperation from all the residents from the Mosque right up to Bintangor Kecil areas because there are a lot of big works to be done in this area within these two years,” he when officiating Fiesta Satok 2018 at Tebingan Sungai Bintangor Kecil here yesterday. Abang Johari informed the government had approved RM60 million to upgrade first the roads – Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol will be beautified and expanded into two lanes from the Mosque right up to the junction of Jalan Haji Mataim. He said upgrading works will not affect the houses, and the roads will be upgraded including with street-lighting so that there won’t be any potholes.
This will be implemented. He said the Bintangor Bridge will also be upgraded and the design will be a bit like Putrajaya. He said the tender was already out last Friday and this means the government will implement the development of the area under JKR and not under DBKU as the project is costing RM60 million, he said “This means the Bridge will be an iconic bridge and it will take 18 to 24 months to implement. So I call upon the villagers to give their cooperation,” he said adding with the development in the area, the values of land will go up.
The chief minister said another development in the area is a police station including Marine Police, and so meaning the security in the area is assured. He said the tender was also out last month. “So the condition in the area will be changed because there will be tourists coming, and with the existence of BK Square, the tourists will frequent the area and there will be increase in economic activities in the area. “It is part of an urban renewal.
This urban renewal, the major part of it will be in this area,” he said, adding it that it will link to Jalan Haji Taha near Hikmah Exchange. Abang Johari said the areas also has a lot of knowledgeable people, and they will know how to organise the opportunities in the area. He pointed out the government will only provide the basic developments and he and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusoff will make another plan where there will be overall development for Bintangor, Mosque and Haji Taha right up to JKR area near Padang Pasir and these areas will be redeveloped.
What is required is cooperation from the people, he said. Meanwhile, DBKU Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said Fiesta Satok 2018 is a programme jointly organised by DBKU and Kejiranan Mesra N.8 Satok with the aim to get closer to the community.
He sa i d t h e re a re n ow 5 2 Kejiranan Mesra under DBKU and each Kejiran Mesra has its own niche. He said Kejiranan Mesra Bintangor is of the five Kejiranan Mesra in DBKU area which is most active.

When the building is ready next year, the people in the area will feel safer.
