KUCHING: A late-night fire destroyed three houses at Kampung Tabuan Hilir here on Thursday night. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station arrived at the scene three minutes later after a distress call was received at 10:50 pm.
Teams from the Padungan and Batu Lintang stations were also deployed to assist.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak said the blaze involved three houses – two semi-permanent structures and one non-permanent structure.
“The first house was completely razed, while the second and third suffered about 80 per cent damage,” the department said in a statement.
Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading further, successfully saving two nearby houses which, however, still sustained minor damage.
The operation was carried out using both offensive and defensive firefighting techniques.
Firefighters continued overhaul work to ensure no risk of re-ignition before concluding the operation at 1:25 am.
