TATAU: Two individuals suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out shortly after midnight today along Jalan Tatau Sangan here.
The blaze also razed nine wooden houses.
The injured individuals, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, sustained burns to their left arms, with the man sustaining additional burns extending to his back.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received at 12:56 am, prompting firefighters from the Tatau station to be dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found a row of nine non-permanent wooden houses, each measuring approximately 20 by 40 feet, fully engulfed in flames.
“Three motorcycles and 10 nearby vehicles were also completely destroyed in the blaze,” it said in a statement today.
Firefighters immediately launched suppression efforts using the Rescue, Exposure, Confine, Extinguish, Overhaul (RECEO) technique, deploying two 400-foot hose lines and drawing water from a nearby hydrant.
Cooling operations were also conducted to prevent the fire from spreading.
The fire was successfully brought under control after several hours of operation and concluded at 8:20 am after the surrounding area was declared safe and no remaining sources of ignition.
