MUKAH: Twelve tenants were left with nothing but clothes on their backs after a rental house in Kampung Sungai Pagei was destroyed by fire yesterday (May 7).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 1.37pm incident as the occupants managed to evacuate to safety.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Mukah station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found that the house, involving four rooms, was already engulfed in flames and the extinguishing deed was performed using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
Strong winds at the time intensified the blaze, causing it to spread to parts of the neighbouring houses on the left and at the back, particularly affecting the lattice structures.
The flames were brought under control at 2.15pm, followed by overhaul works to eliminate any potential for reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation at 4pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
