SIBU: Five families were left homeless after their house at Batu 6, Kampung Sri Hijrah here was razed by a fire on Thursday night.

Upon receiving an emergency call at 8.06pm, four firemen from the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station led by Peter Jinang rushed to the fire scene with their fighting equipment.

An Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit also rushed to the scene of the fire. The house was difficult to access because of narrow and slippery roads.

The operation ended at 9.36pm after the fire was completely put out. The cause of the fire and amount of losses are still being investigated.
