Blaze razes 40-door quarters, dozens homeless

LAWAS: Three blocks of workers’ quarters were reduced to ashes after a devastating fire broke out along Jalan Trusan yesterday.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the 1.49pm incident. However, the afternoon blaze has left dozens of workers displaced.

The first block was a two-storey unit which housed 20 doors while, the second and third blocks were single-storey units housing 10 doors each. In total, 40 doors were engulfed by flames.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Lawas fire and rescue station were promptly deployed to the scene following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the quarters beyond saving and conducted the extinguishing operation.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, and losses incurred are being assessed. It is expected that relevant agencies will coordinate immediate assistance for the affected victims.
