Blood donors get recognition for life-saving contribution

MIRI: More than 50 blood donors, here, were awarded with certificates of appreciation for their continuous participation in donating blood.

Leading the list were Dr Roland Dom Mattu and Miri Blood Donor Recruitment Committee chairman Cr Karambir Singh.

Dr Roland was awarded with the lifetime distinguished volunteer service award, while Karambir for distinguished volunteer commitment award 2020 to 2022.

They were awarded in a simple ceremony held at a leading hotel here in recognition of their active participation in blood donating campaign from 2020 to 2022.

Blood donors are lauded for their contributions.

On hand to present the certificates was the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri District chairperson Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.

Also in the list of the recipients were Adam Lim and Mary Ashley Joseph, both aged 17, for being the youngest blood donors – they both had donated one pint of blood.

Meanwhile, Tang Tiong Ching, 65, has been awarded as the male blood donor with the highest donation of 135 pints, followed by Rose Sudan Ganing, 52, for the female category (75 pints).

Dr Chan, in his opening address, lauded blood donors for their contributions in saving the lives of others by giving blood.
