MIRI: A total of 57 individuals successfully donated blood during the 20th Miri City Day Blood Donation Campaign held today (May 3), as part of the city’s anniversary celebrations.
Out of 79 people who registered, the donors completed the process during the event, which was supported by Miri City Council (MCC) and jointly organised by several local associations.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang said the campaign reflected the community’s ongoing commitment to public health and support for local hospitals.
“For twenty years, this campaign has reflected Miri’s generous spirit and enduring sense of community,” he said.
“To our incredible blood donors, your simple yet profound act of giving means the world to those in need. One donation can save up to three lives,” he added.
Yii also extended his gratitude to the event’s co-organisers, which included the Miri Indian Association, Miri Piasau Community Welfare Association, Persatuan Wanita Petroleum Miri, Miri City Caring Society, Miri Punjabi Association, and the Inner Wheel Club of Miri.
“Your commitment proves that when communities unite, extraordinary things happen. You embody the essence of Miri , a diverse city built on collaboration and shared purpose,” he added.
Event coordinating chairman Karambir Singh echoed the mayor’s sentiments, encouraging continued public support for blood donation.
“We must carry this spirit forward,” he said. “Whether you’re a regular donor or considering donating for the first time, know that every pint makes a difference.”
