LUNDU: The Lundu District Council has organised a Boat Handover Programme in Kampung Selampit here to ensure smooth daily movement for residents as a temporary initiative before the new bridge in the area is fully completed.
The handover was officiated by Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, who said the boat was the second unit provided for the local community’s use during the bridge construction period.
“We want the residents of Kampung Selampit to continue moving safely and smoothly in their daily activities, particularly for education, healthcare and economic needs.
“This second boat completes the temporary facility until the bridge is ready for use,” he said.
Billy said that the construction works for the temporary bridge pillars have now reached the middle section, reflecting positive progress on the project.
He said that the total cost for providing two boats, complete with the support equipment, amounted to RM290,4000, describing it as an important investment for the wellbeing and continuity of the local community’s livelihood.
“The safety of residents is our priority and all users are reminded to use the boats in accordance with the rules set,” he added.
