KUCHING: Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) donated RM1,000 to the Sungai Alor Mukah fire victims which left 12 homeless a few days ago.
The Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that the family affected by the fire has also received assistance from various organisations.
Fatimah said this when met by reporters after officiating at the blood donation campaign held at Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) by Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sarawak (PPIS) yesterday at Wisma Ho Ho Lim, Jalan Abell, here.
“The PPIS contributed RM1,000 to the family to help reduce the burden of losing their home and belongings. The JKM has also provided immediate assistance and other forms of monetary aid for the construction of a new home.
“According to the AADK report, the fire was caused by a suspect in police custody with a criminal record who has been in and out of prison,” Fatimah said.
“The Sarawak Social Welfare Department has also provided immediate assistance and other forms of monetary aid for the construction of a new home.
She explained that the Sarawak government has assistance programmes in place for the construction of new homes, and the district office will manage the replacement of the destroyed home.
In addition to housing needs, the welfare has also provided aid such as pocket money, clothing, school uniforms, and kitchen necessities to the affected family.
“The family members who lost their documents in the fire can apply for identification cards, birth certificates, or marriage certificates at the Registration Department or the Islamic Religious Department.
“This tragic incident highlights the serious issue of drug problems and the misuse of illicit substances.”
The community, Fatimah added, must work together to prevent such tragedies from happening again and urge the public to contribute to organisations like the CSSC are also welcomed to support the affected family’s daily necessities.
