SIMANGGANG: Police have confirmed that a body found in Pruan area along Batang Lupar yesterday (Jan 6), is that of an elderly Chinese man who had been reported missing after his vehicle was found in the river earlier this week.
Rescuers discovered and recovered the male body at around 12.10 pm, and it was believed to be linked to a missing person report lodged on Monday (Jan 5).
Sri Aman police chief Supt Dennis Bunyam said preliminary identification by the family confirmed the victim as Celsus Khaw Choon Seng, 63, from Batu Kawa.
“His body was later taken to Sri Aman Hospital’s Forensic Department for post-mortem.
“At this stage, the case has been classified as sudden death pending autopsy to determine the actual cause of death,” he said.
Dennis advised the public to avoid speculation out of respect for the victim’s family.
On Monday, a white Perodua Alza registered to Khaw was found in Batang Lupar River near Jalan Skait.
He was reported to have left his home alone in Kuching at around 4 pm on Jan 4, driving the vehicle to Sri Aman on personal business.
