Body of missing angler found near Pulau Lakei

KUCHING: The body of a man believed to have drowned after falling overboard during a fishing trip near Batu Susur, Pulau Lakei here was found on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Mohd Raduan Jemat, 55, was found by personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at around 12.20 pm.

A fire and rescue team from the Tabuan Jaya station later responded to the emergency call regarding the discovery at 12.27 pm.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said earlier Mohd Raduan and two friends had gone on a private boat to Pulau Lakei on July 4 at around 4 pm for a fishing trip.

“At about 11 pm the following night, the trio went to sleep in the boat. However, at around 3.40 am the next morning (Sunday), they woke up and realised Mohd Raduan was missing.

“They immediately searched the surrounding waters near Pulau Lakei but failed to locate him. A police report was later lodged for further action,” it said.

The department added that upon the team’s arrival at the jetty in Muara Tebas, they were informed that the body of the victim had been found.

His remains were later brought ashore and handed over to the police for further action.
