SELANGAU: An elderly woman reported missing in a forest at Batang Oya, Ensurai last Thursday, was found dead today (July 17).

The State Fire Department operations centre said the body of Samban Sabut, in her 70s, was found around 3pm.

Samban, from Rumah Lenggang, Nanga Tajam, was found about 200 metres from the search and rescue (SAR) control post.

“The victim was found dead by rescuers. Her body was brought out from the area and later handed over to the police for further action.

“Following the discovery, the search operation was called off at 4pm,” a spokesperson said.

Earlier on Thursday, Selangau fire station received a distress call around 8.30am pertaining to the missing woman.

Samban was said to have gone out to look for fruits in the forest near her longhouse.
