TATAU: The body of a man who was reported missing after allegedly falling into a river near Rumah Enjan, Nanga Biban last night, has been found dead today (June 4).
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim, identified as Alexsen Gindi, 24, was discovered by his family and members of the public at around 9.10 am.
Firefighters from Tatau station were later informed by police that the body was found about five metres from the riverbank near the longhouse.
Rescuers were then deployed to the scene, about 14km away from the search and rescue (SAR) control post at the old market’s wharf, to recover the body.
Alexsen’s body was handed over to the police for transportation to the hospital. The SAR operation was officially called off at 11.45 am.
The incident was first reported to Bomba at 10.12 pm last night (June 3) by the police. Firefighters were dispatched to the station to gather details before planning the SAR operation.
However, the search was postponed as the location could only be accessed via a logging road, which was deemed too dangerous to navigate in the dark.
