SONG: The body of a teenage girl reported missing while bathing in Katibas River near Rumah Robert, Nanga Bajor on Monday (June 2), has been found drowned today (June 4)
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said Civil Defence Force (APM) members discovered the victim, identified as Puteri Nazatul Akmal Zulkarnain, 13, by the riverbank at 10.44 am.
She was found about 1.5km from the longhouse and her body was later handed over to the police for further action.
Following the discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 11.30 am.
The incident happened at around 5pm on Monday, when Puteri was bathing in the river with her brother and friends. She went missing shortly after and was feared to have drowned.
Firefighters from Song station were promptly deployed to the scene, about 23 km away, after receiving a distress call at 5.28 pm.
Upon arrival, the team, together with villagers, launched an initial search along the riverbank, but failed to locate her.
