KANOWIT: A grieving family at Rumah Guntur in Ngemah here faced an unexpected challenge when rising floodwaters made it impossible for them to transport their deceased loved one’s coffin by road.

Firefighters stepped in to ensure the final journey could be completed.

According to Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, they received an emergency call at 11.15 am and immediately deployed a team from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to assist.

“When our team arrived, they found the road completely submerged, making it impossible to transport the coffin by vehicle,” he said.

Determined to help, the firefighters worked together with the bereaved family to carefully transfer the coffin onto a rescue boat and navigate the Kanowit River.

Thanks to their efforts, the coffin was safely delivered from Rumah Guntur Ngemah to Majau Bridge here, enabling the family to proceed with the final rites.

Once the mission was completed, the firefighters returned to their station, knowing they had helped bring comfort to a family in their time of loss.
