MIRI: A bushfire that scorched approximately 100 acres along Jalan Kuala Baram, Senadin, was fully extinguished on Sunday (July 28) following a three-day operation led by the Lutong Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The blaze, which broke out last Friday (July 26), was brought under control through a swift and coordinated effort by its Bravo Response Team, supported by firebreaks that successfully contained the spread.

“This was a challenging operation due to the dry conditions, but with the persistence of our team and the support from local partners such as Kenyalang Smart City (KSC), we managed to bring the fire under control,” said Lutong Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Henry Jugah.

Taking note that various factors, including natural occurrences, discarded cigarettes, dry spells, and extreme heatwaves, can cause bushfires, he urged the public to refrain from open burning during the current dry period as a preventive measure.

Kenyalang Smart City played a crucial supporting role by deploying personnel and machinery, including excavators, to create additional firebreaks, a move that proved essential in halting the spread of flames.

While the fire occurred near areas associated with Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, the company clarified that it had no involvement in the incident.

Instead, it commended the efforts of Bomba Lutong, expressing appreciation for the department’s efficiency and dedication.

In a statement, the company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting public safety and environmental resilience.

“We will continue to work closely with local partners and relevant authorities to safeguard the environment and surrounding communities,” it said.
