SIBU: A 19-year-old woman was swiftly rescued after she fell into the river at Sibu Waterfront early this morning (May 29).
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said firefighters from Sibu central station were deployed to rescue the victim after being alerted by members of the public at 3.28 am.
“Upon arrival, the team confirmed that the victim was stranded in a muddy section along the riverbank.
“One of the rescuers immediately descended using a body harness and brought the victim back to safety,” he said in a statement.
Initial examination found that the victim did not suffer any injuries and she was handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 3.55 am.
